Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are seeking two Assistant Professors for 2-year positions starting 1 September 2023 to explore experimental approaches to discover new ways to target the mechanisms of development of chemoresistance in ovarian cancer in the Wennerberg group at BRIC, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen

Information on BRIC and the Wennerberg group can be found at: www.bric.ku.dk

Our research
The Wennerberg group at BRIC focuses on identifying new effective precision cancer therapies. This is done with a systems-driven approach where we combine chemical biology, phenotypic profiling, molecular profiling, and informatics to gain an understanding of individual cancers, their drug resistance mechanisms, and how they may be targeted. Our ultimate goal is to build the foundation for new types of stratified and individualized cures for cancer patients.

Your job
The assistant professors’ responsibilities will primarily consist of research, including publication/academic dissemination duties.

The first Assistant Professor will take the lead on a project focused on identifying novel targetable mechanisms of phenotypic plasticity underlying ovarian cancer chemoresistance. The project integrates high-throughput lineage phenotyping and drug response analyses in ovarian cancer organoids with functional genomics and molecular profiling. The project involves several collaborating parties in Europe, and the role involves coordinating the experimental planning and smooth data flow between the collaborators.

The second Assistant Professor will lead efforts in exploring new therapeutic targets in ovarian cancer that could overcome chemoresistance to conventional chemotherapy. This will involve handling and working with primary cell culture models of ovarian cancer, high throughput screening, high content imaging, molecular profiling. In addition, you will be leading our work on developing new organoid models and biobanking. The organoid development includes several national and international collaborators and you will be responsible for coordinating collaborative efforts.

Both of you will be encouraged to further design and implement innovative methodologies to address the clinically relevant questions in the ovarian cancer therapy resistance field, depending on her/his expertise and interests.

Teaching at Master’s, PhD, and medical student courses organized at BRIC will also be part of your tasks.
